While installing amps for cars there are a few basic items to keep in mind. Many people have gone to the do it yourself approach to upgrading their stereo system and as long as everything is addressed properly there is no reason this job may not be done as well as any professional installation. The first step is to buy the amp and the supplies needed for installation.

Be sure to have an ample amount of speaker and power wire available as this will have to come from the battery all the way to where the amp is mounted and then to the speakers. The amps for cars will have the specifications for wire gauges included in the instructions. There is one item that may or may not be included with the amp and that is an in line fuse holder.

The inline fuse holder needs to be mounted as close to the power source as possible. This not only protects the stereo but also the rest of the car. Should a sort occur, this fuse will blow out preventing what could be an extremely disastrous car fire or a major electric issue.

The size of the fuse and holder will be specified in the instructions along with the proper mounting and wiring techniques. Amplifiers for cars can be the greatest accessory to a stereo system and also one of the easiest ways for the do it yourselfer to improve his vehicle. The mounting of car amplifiers is extremely important as they need airflow to stay cool and work properly.

There is one “never do” when it comes to amps for cars. Never run the power wire on the same side of the vehicle as the signal wire. This will interfere with the amplifier’s performance, causing interference in the actual sound emitting from the speakers.
